TDHA Announces Recipients of the 2007 Legislator of the Year Award

State Representative Michael Villarreal, District 123, San Antonio was presented with TDHA’s Legislator of the Year Award for his sponsorship of our Access to Care bill in the 2007 Legislative Session. The Award was presented at a meeting of the San Antonio Dental Hygienists’ Society in May 2008 by TDHA President, Beth Stewart and SADHS President, Monna Carpenter-Barin.

The Texas Dental Hygienists' Association (TDHA) recently awarded Senator Leticia Van de Putte, R. Ph of San Antonio, District 26 the 2007 Legislator of the Year Award. Senator Van de Putte was honored at TDHA's Annual Legislative Workshop held at the Austin Airport Hilton, January 12, 2008. The award recognizes extraordinary support and leadership in the advancement of increased access and quality oral healthcare provided by dental hygienists in Texas. Senator Van de Putte was chosen to receive this award after sponsoring the bill to enable dental hygienists' in the state of Texas to administer local anesthesia. The TDHA is deeply grateful and indebted to this Senator for all her assistance. The dental hygiene profession was founded in the early 1900s. Today there are more than 120,000 registered dental hygienists across the U.S. who provide professional oral health care to help people maintain healthy smiles and healthy bodies.
