President - Cindie Pierce, RDH
Cindie has been practicing dental hygiene for over twenty years. She has had the opportunity to work in private practice for 23 years in four offices: in McAllen, Dripping Springs, a great group practice in Austin, and Fort Worth.
Cindie has had the opportunity to serve on the state and local levels in several areas. With positions on many councils, as well as the president position, just to list a few: membership, student affairs council, annual sessions council, governmental affairs council.
An active member in her church, she enjoys reading scriptures on Sunday's, teaching children in 1st and 2nd grades, and assisting in vacation bible school. In her free time, Cindie enjoys reading, sewing, cross stitching, and spending time with my family and friends.
Cindie has been married for over 28 years to Tim, a great husband who understands what it means to be involved in your profession. He supports Cindie's decisions to be active in her association. Together they have one daughter, Kaitlyn, who is in her senior year at Oklahoma State University, studying Animal Science. She will be starting a Master’s degree in animal science in the fall of 2018 at OSU. They have opened their doors and hosted 3 wonderful exchange students and feel they have added three more daughters to their family. They have become a permanent part of the family. They both love attending both high school and college football games.
President Elect - Connie Groves, RDH, BS
Connie Groves RDH, grew up in Central Ohio and attended The Ohio State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She has worked in private practice for the past 30 years. In 2001 her husband Jonathan Witt took a position in Houston. Since moving to Houston, she has been an active member of Bay Area Dental Hygienists’ Association where she currently serves as Treasurer, Sealant day chair, Continuing Education Co-Chair, IOH Chair and Hy-Pac Chair. She has also served as President, Vice President, Secretary, Delegate and Trustee. She has had the opportunity at the state level to participate on numerous councils. Such as, Ways and Means chair, Budget and finance and Professional Education.
Connie has been married to Jonathan for 16 years and they have 4 rescue dogs. In her free time, she enjoys cycling, hiking and traveling or just hanging out with family and friends. She is a huge Buckeyes fan. She is also proud to serve as the new President Elect.
1st Vice President - Marian Tajchman, RDH, MS
Marian Tajchman, RDH, MS has 42 years experience as a dental hygienist. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi where she taught as an adjunct instructor in the Dental Hygiene program for 10 years, a full-time Assistant Instructor for two years and presently tenured track instructor for 10 years. She received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene in 1976 from Del Mar College, a Bachelors of Science degree in Occupational Education in 1979 from Corpus Christi State University, and a Masters of Science degree in 2008 from Texas A&M University/Corpus Christi. She has been very active in the Corpus Christi District Dental Hygiene Society serving as president, secretary, and currently, treasurer, membership chair and continuing education chair. She has served as her component's delegate or trustee for the last 13 years. She has served as TDHA 2nd vie-president, on the membership committee, education committee and as the State Education Network liaison for ADHA. She presently serves on the TDHA Professional Education Council and a member of the 2018 ADHA delegation to the ADHA Annual Session. She has been married to her husband, Dan, for 41 years and has three grown children, one son and two daughters, along with a son-in-law and two grandsons. She enjoys historical romance novels, gardening and being actively involved in her church and community
2nd Vice President - Christina Horton, RDH, BSDH
Christina has practiced as a dental hygienist since graduating from Tyler Junior College in 2005. The first 4 years of her career she worked solely in private practice until 2008 when she began working additionally in public health. In 2011, Christina began teaching at her alma mater as adjunct clinical faculty. In 2014 her 3 passions were incorporated into one position as the dental hygienist for the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler creating a program integrating oral health, medical practitioners and education. She earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Texas Woman's University in 2015. Christina currently serves as the Chair of the East Texas component as well as the TDHA Community Chair. She has served as the SCADHA adviser for TJC since 2014. Christina has been married to her husband, Brian for 16 years and together they have a son, Lucas and a daughter, Tatum. She loves traveling, cooking, spending time at her kids' sporting events and volunteering in her community.
Secretary – Betty Haynes, RDH
Betty Haynes, RDH, of Houston is a newly elected TDHA Trustee Director for 2017-2018. After attending Career Academy Dental Assisting School in Houston, Texas and becoming a Certified Dental Assistant, Betty continued her education by graduating in the first class of Dental Hygiene at Lamar University in 1973. She is currently employed full time in a private periodontal practice in Northwest Houston. Betty is Past President of the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists Association and Past President of the Texas Dental Hygienists Association. She has served as a Delegate to the American Dental Hygienists Association and the Texas Dental Hygienists Association. Betty continues to serve on committees and is currently on the board of the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists Association and the Texas Dental Hygienists Association. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member of the Coleman Houston Community College where she teaches classes to Dental Assistants to further their education and requirements to the State Board.
When not doing dental hygiene volunteering or working she spends time with her three granddaughters and enjoys cooking and shopping with "the girls".
Treasurer - Cathy Nobles, RDH, OM
Cathy Nobles has been a clinical hygienist for 17 years. Previously, she was in accounting for 20 years. She has been a member of TDHA since 1999 when she was in the Dental Hygiene Program. She was trustee for many years representing Greater Collin Dental Hygienists Association and was on many committees with TDHA. She has served in many capacities on the Board of Greater Collin since it's inception in 2004. She also serves as Chair of the Dental Hygiene Advisory Committee at Collin College.
Cathy has been married to her wonderful and understanding husband Dave for 10 years. He helps support her in the local component by being her travel companion and the IT person maintaining the Greater Collin Dental Hygienists Association web page.
She recently retired after working in private dental offices. In her spare time, she likes to work out at the gym, ride bikes with her husband on the trails in Plano and work with native plants in their yard.
Cathy has two daughters, one son, two son-in-laws and one daughter-in-law. Her children have blessed the family with 6 loving and wonderful grandchildren.
Cathy and Dave also devote a lot of time to Central Texas Dachshund Rescue fostering dogs and finding new forever homes for them.
Immediate Past President - Cindy Crisler, RDH
Cindy Crisler graduated from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi in 1978. She has worked for Dr. Phillip Hinson, the Best Boss in the World, since graduation! She has been an active member of the Texas Dental Hygienists' Association and Greater Fort Worth Dental Hygienists' Society since becoming a dental hygienist. She has held a variety of state and local Offices such as TDHA Corporate Relations Chair, TDHA Student Affairs Council Chair, Greater Fort Worth Dental Hygienists' Society Trustee, Treasurer, and Professional Education Chair. She is currently serving as the Greater Fort Worth President. Cindy has also been a member of the Dental Hygiene Advisory Committee in 1979 -1982 and 1984 - 1986.
Cindy along with her husband John of 7 years are also active with volunteering for Adam Smith's Texas Harley Davidson. She serves as Director of Ladies of Harley and John is an instructor in Riders Edge.
Speaker of the House - Hope Garza, RDH, BS
Hope Garza, RDH, BS attended Texas Woman's University in Denton, TX where she received her Bachelors of Science degree in dental hygiene in 1975. She returned to Houston after graduation and has practiced in a general practice setting since. Hope currently works in a group practice in the Town and Country area.
She has been an ADHA member for 43 years plus my two years as a student member. Hope has held numerous leadership positions on the component, state and national level. Hope has had the honor of serving as Greater Houston and TDHA President and ADHA Treasurer. She is currently serving as Roster Committee Chair and IOH Liaison on the Component level and Board Parliamentarian and Ad Manual and Website Maintenance Committees as Chair on the State level.
Hope enjoys traveling and is a long time season ticket holder for the Houston Ballet. She loves baseball and having the Houston Astros win the World Series last year was a highlight of the year! She loves reading and usually has two or three books she is reading at any given time.
